The Young Presidents Organisation (YPO) represents a global community of leaders aligned around four core principles:
- A community of peers.
- Lifelong education and idea exchange.
- A safe haven of trust, respect and confidentiality.
- A uniquely personal experience.
As the chief executive of a company with no board, YPO has been invaluable for connecting me with people who understand the challenges of running your own business. Having them as a sounding board for ideas has been a huge benefit to me, enabling me to become a better leader for WEST.
YPO isn’t just about business. I consider so many of the people I have met through it as friends. It’s really helped me understand that you need to be firing through all cylinders in your personal life to give you the strength to successfully lead a business. The family days with YPO have been just as valuable to me as the business training and connections.
One of the most important things I have learnt from my time with YPO is this:
Q: How do you eat an elephant?
A: One bite at a time!
Every business and personal challenge is surmountable. You just need to be patient, and work your way through it. You’ll get to the tail of the elephant eventually.
